On the night from this coming Saturday to Sunday, it is that time again.. THE CLOCKS GO BACK.
An extra hour of sleep is many parents’ dream, but unfortunately it does not work out that way… the children are simply standing by the bed an hour earlier!
How can you make sure the transition goes smoothly?
- Cold turkey: you switch to the new rhythm in one go. Nothing changes and on Sunday you simply go along with the new rhythm.
- You let your little one get used to it gradually over the coming week, in small steps.
How do you apply option 2?
For four days, you put your little one to bed 15 minutes later. You shift not only the bedtime routine a little, but also the times your child eats. This way you gradually shift the rhythm over 4 days.
| Wake up | Lunch | Dinner | Bedtime | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | 07:00 | 12:00 | 17:30 | 19:00 |
| Day 2 | 07:15 | 12:15 | 17:45 | 19:15 |
| Day 3 | 07:30 | 12:30 | 18:00 | 19:30 |
| Day 4 | 07:45 | 12:45 | 18:15 | 19:45 |
| Day 5 | ==> The clocks go back from summer time to winter time. |
The weather is also changing quite a lot at the moment. Many parents find it difficult to decide how many layers of clothing their little one should wear.
There are many sleeping bags on sale, from thin to thick. Each sleeping bag has its tog rating on the label. This is a rating system for how well the fabric insulates. The colder the environment, the higher the tog rating. Do make sure you measure the temperature of the room your little one sleeps in.
I wish you all a smooth transition from summer time to winter time!
