Professional support for exclusive households

For families with several residences, an international diary or a household that calls for refined coordination, The Family Assistant finds professionals who match their way of life and the daily run of the house. From Household Manager and Butler to Rota Nanny, Family Assistant, Nanny and Personal Assistant: every search begins with a personal conversation about the wishes, expectations and manners within the household.

Discretion is one of our three core values. From the first contact we handle all information shared with us with care. Conversations, personal details and the search for the right professional are treated in strict confidence.

Who we work for

When life plays out across several residences and countries, running a household calls for attention to every detail. Diaries, travel, guests and staff all come together in a private setting with its own habits and expectations. The Family Assistant matches professionals who suit that way of living and the responsibilities that come with it.

We handle the recruitment for private households in Amsterdam, Laren, Blaricum, Wassenaar, Aerdenhout and Bloemendaal among others, and in Belgium in Knokke, Brasschaat and Antwerp. We also guide the search for the right professional for residences in Ibiza, Marbella, Dubai and New York. Where contact runs through a family office or private secretary, we align the process carefully with the way things are already done.

Professionals for exclusive households

In an exclusive household every role carries its own responsibility. What fits depends on the size of the household, the staff already in place, the number of residences and the support needed in daily life. During the intake we map out which professional suits that.

Household Manager

The Household Manager leads the running of the household. They direct the staff, keep an eye on budgets and maintenance and coordinate suppliers. With several residences, the Household Manager provides the overview and a consistent way of working at every location.

Butler

The Butler focuses on hospitality and personal service in the home. From a gracious welcome to service at dinners and private events: this professional makes sure guests feel welcome and every detail is right. Caring for the wardrobe, the silver and the wine cellar can also be part of the role.

Rota Nanny

A Rota Nanny works to an alternating rota with a second Nanny, for example two weeks on and two weeks off. That keeps care for the children familiar and continuously available during travel or a demanding schedule. The steady rhythm gives children clarity, while both professionals have enough time to rest. Read more about the Rota Nanny.

Commitment and availability matched to the household

How a role is set up depends on the household, the residences involved and the daily rhythm. During the intake we discuss which arrangement fits. The options include:

  • A live in or live out role, matched to the housing available and the presence you would like.
  • A rota in which professionals alternate, for example with a demanding schedule or frequent stays abroad.
  • Support across several residences, with clear agreements about the work at each location.
  • Travelling along within the Netherlands or internationally, as part of the role.

Working hours, travel arrangements, housing and responsibilities are set out carefully in advance. That way expectations are clear for everyone involved.

Discretion as a starting point

Anyone working close to a family's private life should regard restraint as a matter of course. Discretion is therefore part of how our professionals are trained. In the online training of the TFA Academy they learn about our way of working, their responsibilities and discretion. Our professionals are trained to work professionally and with reserve.

Do you have further wishes regarding confidentiality, for example about which information is shared at what stage of recruitment? We are glad to discuss them with you, so that the process is arranged in consultation.

Careful screening

We are selective about who we accept into our network and take ample time for the screening process. Every candidate goes through, among other things:

  • Personal interviews.
  • A check of at least two references.
  • A Dutch Certificate of Conduct (VOG).
  • A check of diplomas.
  • For Nannies: a first aid certificate for children and babies.
  • After a positive screening: access to the TFA Academy.

From first conversation to evaluation

  1. A confidential introductory conversation, followed by an intake in which we map out your household and your wishes.
  2. We select candidates and send you their CVs with a short description.
  3. We schedule the interviews and evaluate them together with you. This is followed by a trial day with the candidates you prefer.
  4. You offer the professional an employment contract. If you wish, we help you draw it up.
  5. One week after the start, we contact both you and the professional. After 3 weeks, 6 months and 10 months there is another evaluation, and in between you can always reach us.
