Nanny or Family Assistant for diplomats in The Hague
If you work at an embassy, an international organisation or one of the courts in The Hague, your family often moves with you for a posting of several years. To a new country, with a new language, an unfamiliar school system and a diary that rarely keeps office hours. The Family Assistant finds your family a Nanny or Family Assistant who brings calm to that: personally selected, carefully screened and used to working with discretion.
We take the entire selection and screening process off your hands, and we stay involved after the start.

What families on a posting often look for
Every family is different, yet the same wishes tend to come up during those first months in the Netherlands. In a personal intake we look at what your family truly needs.
- Someone who speaks English and feels at ease in a home where several languages are spoken.
- Steady support on the way to and from the international school, sport and other activities.
- A household that keeps running during travel, receptions and irregular working days.
- Continuity and a familiar face for the children at a time when so much is new.
- Discretion, because work and private life sit close together in your situation.
A Nanny or a Family Assistant?
A Nanny works for one family and focuses on the children: care, daily routines, support with parenting alongside you, homework, the school run, a healthy evening meal and light household tasks. She adapts to your schedule rather than to the opening hours of a nursery.
A Family Assistant also takes charge of the household. She manages the family diary, organises travel, dinners and private events, directs other staff in the house and keeps the living and reception rooms looking their best. Not sure which role suits you? We are glad to think it through.

Personal selection and thorough screening
Quality, reliability and discretion come first for us. That is why we take our time over the screening and are selective about who joins our register.
- A personal interview before a candidate joins our register.
- Screening with at least two references, a valid certificate of good conduct (VOG) and the relevant diplomas.
- For Nannies, a first aid certificate for children and babies and a childcare related diploma as well.
- The TFA Academy, our compulsory training with modules on discretion, hospitality, etiquette, child development and healthy food, among other subjects.
- Online masterclasses and coaching, also while she is working with your family.
Employed by your family, with evaluations
We schedule the interviews with the selected candidates and evaluate them together with you. If there is a click, a trial session follows. You then offer the Nanny or Family Assistant the employment contract yourself, and we help you draw it up if you wish.
One week after the start we contact both you and your Nanny or Family Assistant. Further evaluations follow after three weeks, six months and ten months, and you can reach us at any moment in between. Where it is needed, we coach. See the full process from introduction to contract.
Support while you settle into the Netherlands
Our Nannies and Family Assistants can also be of value beyond their own duties when you have just arrived. Think of finding the right school for your children, dealing with the municipality, registering with healthcare and finding your way around local services. Their familiarity with the area and the language makes the transition lighter. Read more about our approach for expat families.
Practical arrangements we are happy to discuss
We do not advise on your diplomatic status, your tax position, work permits or visas; for those matters we refer you to your own organisation or adviser. When it comes to the practical side of the collaboration, such as working hours, travel and how the employment is arranged, we are happy to talk it through with you.
