Bilingual Nanny: loving care, with a second language as a natural part of the day
Children learn a language most easily by hearing and speaking it in everyday life. At breakfast, while playing and during the bedtime story. A bilingual Nanny speaks with your children in a language other than Dutch, as a natural part of their daily care.
The Family Assistant works with Dutch Nannies as well as Nannies who speak a second language alongside Dutch. We match families with carefully screened candidates who suit their wishes, their language and their approach to raising children.

What is a bilingual Nanny?
A bilingual Nanny is a professional Nanny who speaks another language with the children in daily life. She cares for and guides the children just as any Nanny would, and the language flows naturally through everything: conversations, songs, games, books and routines.
This way children grow up with a second language without it ever feeling like a lesson. Together with the parents, the Nanny agrees which language is spoken when, so the children experience clarity and consistency.
Which families is a bilingual Nanny suited to?
- International families and expats who wish to pass on their own language, or who are looking for a familiar language alongside Dutch.
- Parents of different nationalities who are raising their children multilingually.
- Dutch parents who would like their children to grow up bilingual.
- Families who travel often or envisage an international future for their children.

The duties of a bilingual Nanny
A bilingual Nanny carries out the same broad range of duties as any Nanny through TFA. For instance:
- Caring for the children and providing a safe and stable environment.
- Setting up and maintaining daily routines and schedules.
- Supporting the parents in raising the children.
- Planning stimulating activities that support development, including language development.
- Taking the children to and from school and sports clubs.
- Homework support and preparing a healthy meal.
The difference lies in the language in which all of this happens. Which language best suits your family, and how the Nanny uses it, is something we are happy to discuss personally during the intake.
Carefully screened, with a background in childcare
A second language is a lovely addition, but never the only reason for a match. Nannies through TFA have a background in childcare and education, hold a relevant qualification and have extensive experience working with children. Our screening includes references, a certificate of conduct (VOG), diplomas and paediatric first aid. They also complete the TFA Academy, and we continue to coach and support them.
We look beyond experience and availability. It is personality, talents and energy that determine whether someone truly suits your family.
How does finding a bilingual Nanny through TFA work?
The process follows our established way of working: an introductory phone call, an intake meeting, a personal search, interviews and a trial session. During the intake we take your language wishes fully into account.
The Nanny is employed directly by the family, and we are happy to help draw up the employment contract. After the start we evaluate the arrangement after one week, three weeks, six months and ten months. In between, we are always available to you.
