Written by Naomi Plijnaar, Founder TFA

As a parent with a demanding job and a busy family life, finding the right Nanny can be quite complicated. But wow, once you have succeeded, having a Nanny at home is a real blessing. A reliable and caring Nanny offers not only support, but also a great deal of calm amid the hustle and bustle of family life. Here are our 5 tips for parents in Amsterdam who are looking for a Nanny.
Before you start looking for a Nanny, it is essential to have a clear picture of what you need. Make a list of the responsibilities, desired skills and personal qualities you consider important in a Nanny. Think about things like fixed working hours, tasks around the house and any special needs your children may have. A clear description helps to assess potential candidates more effectively. That way we find the perfect match more quickly!
Not quite sure what is possible or exactly where your needs lie? We are always happy to talk it through! Get in touch with us and we will arrange a call.
2. Contact a Nanny agency in good time. We at The Family Assistant are ready to help!
Searching for a Nanny yourself can be very complicated and overwhelming.
We often see families who, after a long search, do not manage to find a suitable Nanny.
So once you have decided that you would like the help of a Nanny, get in touch with us. We can then immediately look in our Nanny network to see which lovely candidates are available and start searching for your dream candidate. This saves you as parents an enormous amount of time and hassle. We screen the Nannies, train them and develop them. Throughout the working relationship with you, the Nannies are also coached by us.
3. Hold in depth interviews with the screened Nannies
We select several CVs and Nannies for you. You choose who appeals to you, and we then schedule the interviews together with you. Really take your time over this. Ask about experience, interests, values and anything else you would like to know about your potential Nanny. Look at personality, communication style and also the feeling you have with a Nanny. All of this matters, because your Nanny will play a big role in your family and your daily routine. We evaluate the interview with you and, if it feels right, we arrange a trial day so you can get to know your Nanny even better.
4. Check references from your potential Nanny’s previous employers
References are extremely important. If you look for a Nanny through The Family Assistant, we take this process off your hands entirely. Which is rather nice, because it takes quite some time. That way you can rest assured that all is well with this Nanny.
5. Set out working hours and costs for the Nanny clearly in a contract
Is it a match? It is important that the terms of employment and the contracts are also properly arranged. If you wish, we help draw these up. We also advise on matters that are relevant to you as an employer. Because our Nannies are employed directly by the family, they are very committed to the family. They feel valued, and all agreements about the working relationship are clearly recorded for both Nanny and parents. No hassle at all!
