My ambition to be an entrepreneur was instilled in me from an early age; it all began in our family business (Hotel Mitland). That is where, at the age of 14, I was allowed to start in the scullery, washing out little pots of peanut sauce. Complaining was pointless; my father would always say: “The only way to learn and grow is to start on the bottom rung”. I soon discovered that hospitality was not for me, but my interest in service and in running my own business grew all the more. This is the drive that still gives me energy every day and makes me happy.
Being an entrepreneur genuinely makes me happy, and it is also my way of contributing to our family. For me, working hard does not feel like work, perhaps because I enjoy it so much and would rather do nothing else. Running a business gives me the freedom I seek and need to get the very best out of myself. Of course the support at home helps me enormously; I wish this special and wonderful work life balance for everyone. That is also one of the driving forces behind my company: The Family Assistant.
In February 2020 I started The Family Assistant with one main goal: to give as many ambitious women and men as possible the opportunity to combine a career with a stress free ‘family life’. A Family Assistant is someone who makes sure you can focus fully on your work while everything at home runs perfectly, so that after work you can enjoy more and have quality time with your family.
From my own experience of running a business and a family (3 sons), I know everything that comes with having both a career and a family life. Both deserve my full attention, but that is not always easy. This is why a Family Assistant* or Nanny is so important and so valuable, and how the ideal balance for the whole family can be achieved. In short: the key to a stress free family life and a great career!
