There are still quite a few misconceptions about Nannies and Family Assistants. And that is a shame, because our Nannies and Family Assistants do wonderful work. We are happy to put these (pre)conceptions to rest.
1. A Nanny or Family Assistant has to live in your home
When people think of a Nanny or Family Assistant, they often picture someone who lives with the family. As a result, many people wrongly assume they need extra space in or next to their home. But the Nannies and Family Assistants who work through TFA simply live in their own homes. You agree together what time the day starts and finishes. So you keep plenty of privacy and there is no need to prepare an extra room.
2. A Nanny or Family Assistant comes from abroad and does not speak Dutch
Many people still associate a Nanny with the character Tipi Wan from the Dutch TV series Gooische Vrouwen. But our Nannies live in the Netherlands and speak Dutch (and often English too, and sometimes another language, for example if you are raising your children bilingually). No hassle bringing Nannies over from abroad, but someone who lives close to you.

3. A child learns more at a day nursery than with a Nanny or Family Assistant
Our Nannies and Family Assistants often have a background in education or childcare. A Nanny or Family Assistant from TFA holds at least a Dutch MBO level 4 diploma and works and thinks at bachelor’s (HBO) level. She has extensive experience in organising and running a household.
In addition, we train and coach our Nannies in educational skills, parenting, care, etiquette and more. The Nanny or Family Assistant plays games with the children, helps with homework and takes them to places where other children are, so they learn plenty about playing with others. And a lovely bonus: the children can always invite friends over to play in their familiar surroundings.
4. A Nanny or Family Assistant always works full time
Not necessarily! We also match Nannies and Family Assistants for, say, 32 hours a week. Our Nannies and Family Assistants are employed directly by one family. This gives both parties a great deal of security. The intention is always a long term collaboration. How you divide the hours is something you agree together. So you can easily keep a day at home with mum or dad, or ask the Nanny or FA to babysit in the evening now and then.
