Work at TFA as a Nanny, Family Assistant or PA

Working through The Family Assistant means working for one family or one employer, with room for personal attention, depth and a real career. Since 2020 we have matched professional, reliable and experienced Nannies and Family Assistants with families, and our Executive Personal Assistants support entrepreneurs and executives.

Below you can read why candidates choose TFA, which three roles we fill and how the application procedure works.

Why work through The Family Assistant

At TFA you work in direct employment. That is unusual in this sector, because many Nannies work through the Dutch domestic services scheme. You are covered by social insurance, your employer pays employer contributions for you, you continue to be paid when you are ill and you are entitled to holiday days and holiday pay. You receive a contract for a fixed number of hours, with a minimum of 30 hours a week.

You also join an organisation with three core values: discretion, anticipation and taking work off people's hands. Those values shape how we work with families, and with you. Read more about The Family Assistant.

Three roles, three routes

Nanny

As a Nanny you work for one family and give your full attention to the children and their development, without the pressure of a large group. You also take on a supporting role for busy parents. Read all about becoming a Nanny through TFA.

Family Assistant

As a Family Assistant you help a busy family organise family life in the broadest sense. Think of outings and private events, the family diary, administration, supervising household staff and a healthy meal. Read all about becoming a Family Assistant through TFA.

Executive Personal Assistant

As an Executive Personal Assistant you support one CEO, founder or executive, professionally and privately. You bring structure and calm to a demanding diary. This role can be in direct employment with the employer or through the payroll of TFA. Read all about becoming an Executive Personal Assistant through TFA.

Alongside these three roles, families sometimes look for a Rota Nanny, who works in a fixed rotation, or a Bilingual Nanny who speaks a second language with the children every day.

The application procedure step by step

Because quality and reliability come first for us, we follow a set application procedure that helps you find your ideal match.

  1. You get in touch with us and we answer your questions about the work and the role that suits you.
  2. If you are interested, you send us your CV.
  3. We arrange a personal meeting. For Executive Personal Assistants this starts with an online introductory conversation, followed by a personal meeting at our office.
  4. You send us your most recent references, a valid Dutch certificate of good conduct (VOG) and your diplomas. For Nannies a valid first aid certificate is also required.
  5. If everything is in order, we welcome you to our team, you start the TFA Academy and we help you find a family or employer who suits you.

Exactly what we check, from references to the certificate of good conduct and diplomas, is set out on our screening and quality page, so you know in advance what is expected of you.

The TFA Academy and coaching throughout your career

Everyone who works through TFA follows the TFA Academy. This online training is compulsory and consists of modules you work through before and during your career. You learn about our way of working, your tasks and discretion, and about upbringing and child development, hospitality and etiquette, family management, healthy food and media literacy.

You can revisit the modules as a refresher and share experiences on the online noticeboard. We also give online masterclasses on etiquette, security, diary management, pedagogy and communication, where you meet other Nannies, Family Assistants and Personal Assistants.

We coach and support you as much as you need, throughout your whole career, so you get the most out of it.
