Which families is a Nanny or Family Assistant right for? (And who is it not right for?)

Which families is a Nanny or Family Assistant right for? (And who is it not right for?)

Who is a Nanny or Family Assistant right for? When do you choose a Nanny and when an FA? And for whom is a Nanny or Family Assistant a less suitable choice? We share the characteristics of families who benefit from a Nanny or FA.

You have children (perhaps several)

Stating the obvious, of course, but it is worth explaining. People often think that a Nanny or Family Assistant is only suitable for larger families. Most of the families we work with do indeed have several children, but you are just as welcome with one child. It all depends on your wishes and needs regarding childcare and raising your children. If you have several children at a day nursery or after school care, a Nanny is often even a cost effective solution. You pay only once for the Nanny, instead of sometimes three times for childcare and after school care, and often also for a separate babysitter for when the two of you want some time away together.

You long for more calm and balance in your family life

You have it all together: a good career or your own business, a wonderful family, a lovely home and great friends. Yet every week it is a challenge to keep all the balls in the air. You know it could be different, but how? You are constantly busy arranging everything in and around your family and managing various people, and there is nothing you want more than to give your children your full attention. Calm and balance is what you are looking for. Not only for yourself, but for your whole family.

You want a familiar face for your children, but not a live in au pair

You want to know where you stand. A familiar face, regularity and calm for your children. No more constantly changing faces and temporary staff at the day nursery or a babysitter’s changing schedules, but a real bond with someone who stays with you for a long time. A live in au pair is not for you, because you value your privacy. But you do need someone full time, or 32 hours a week, to support your family. Then a Nanny or Family Assistant is the solution.

You are an expat living in the Netherlands with your family, or moving abroad from the Netherlands

At TFA we also help many expats who have come to live in the Netherlands and need a Nanny or Family Assistant. As an expat you arrive in a new country, sometimes with a new job, a new language and a different culture. This is often overwhelming and takes a lot of getting used to for the family. A Nanny or Family Assistant can also help expats with arranging all kinds of paperwork and practical matters, such as a car and sports clubs for the children. TFA can also arrange a Nanny or Family Assistant for Dutch families moving abroad. We work with many multilingual Nannies, so raising your children in more than one language is no problem.

Who is a Nanny or Family Assistant not right for?

For parents who would really rather keep doing everything themselves and do not want to hand over the household and the organising within the family, a Nanny or Family Assistant is less suitable. And if you only need a babysitter one day a week, a Nanny or Family Assistant is not the best solution either. A babysitter is then the more obvious choice. A Nanny or Family Assistant is employed directly by you, so it helps if you intend to work together for at least a few months. That way the Nanny or Family Assistant can settle in properly with your family and you can truly build a bond with each other. Of course our Nannies and Family Assistants can be deployed flexibly.
