For what kind of families is a Nanny or Family Assistant suitable (& for whom exactly not?)?

For whom is a Nanny or Family Assistant suitable? And when exactly do you choose a Nanny and when an FA? And for whom is a Nanny or Family Assistant a less good choice? We share with you the characteristics of families who benefit from a Nanny or FA.

You have (multiple) children

Buy-in, of course, but good to explain. People often think that a Nanny or Family Assistant is only suitable for larger families. Most families we work with do indeed have several children, but also with one child you are welcome. It all depends on your wishes and needs regarding care and education. If you have multiple children in care / BSO, a Nanny is often even an economical solution. You only pay once for the Nanny, instead of sometimes 3 times for daycare and BSO and often also for a separate babysitter as extra care for when you want to get away together.

You need more peace and balance in your family life

You've got it good: a good career or your own business, a wonderful family, a nice home and great friends. Yet every week it is a challenge to keep all the balls in the air. You know you can do things differently, but how? You are constantly busy arranging everything in and around your family, managing different people and you want nothing more than to be with your kids. Rest and balance is what you are looking for. Not only for yourself, but for your whole family.

You want a permanent face for your kids, but not a live-in Au Pair

You want to know where you stand. A fixed face, regularity and peace of mind for your children. No more constantly changing faces and substitutes at the nursery and changing schedules of the babysitter, but really build a bond with someone who stays with you for a long time. You don't want an au pair living with you, because you value your privacy. You do need someone full-time or 32 hours to support your family. Then a Nanny or Family Assistant is the solution.

You are an expat living with the family in the Netherlands or moving from the Netherlands abroad

At TFA, we also help a lot of expats who have come to live in the Netherlands and need a Nanny or Family Assistant. As an expat you enter a new country, sometimes with a new job, a new language and a different culture. This is often hugely overwhelming and very hard for the family to get used to. A Nanny or Family Assistant can also help expats arrange all kinds of paperwork and practical matters such as a car and sports clubs for the children. Also for families from the Netherlands moving abroad, TFA can arrange a Nanny or Family Assistant. We work a lot with multilingual Nannies, so raising children multilingually is not a problem.

Who is a Nanny or Family Assistant not suitable for?

For parents who actually prefer to keep doing everything themselves and do not want to outsource the household and family arrangements, a Nanny or Family Assistant is less suitable. Also if you only need a babysitter for one day a week, a Nanny or Family Assistant is not the best solution. A babysitter is then more obvious. A Nanny or Family Assistant will be employed by you, so it is nice if you have the intention to work together for at least a few months. This way the Nanny or Family Assistant can settle in well with you and you really build a bond with each other. Of course our Nannies and Family Assistants are flexible.
