4 misconceptions about Nannies and Family Assistants

4 misconceptions about Nannies and Family Assistants

There are still some misconceptions going around about Nannies and Family Assistants. And that's a shame, because our Nannies and Family Assistants do wonderful work. We help to eliminate the prejudices.

1. A Nanny or Family Assistant must live in your home

Those who think of a Nanny or Family Assistant often think of someone living in your home. As a result, many people mistakenly think they must have extra space in or at home. But the Nannies and Family Assistants who work through TFA simply live in their own home. You agree together what time the day starts and ends. So you still have plenty of privacy and don't have to set up an extra space.

2. A Nanny or Family Assistant comes from abroad and does not speak Dutch

Many people still think of a Nanny as Tipi Wan from the series Gooische Vrouwen. But our Nannies live in the Netherlands and speak Dutch (and often English and sometimes another language if you raise your children bilingually for example). No hassle with getting Nannies from abroad, just someone who lives close to you in your area.

3. A child learns more at a daycare than if we were to work with a Nanny or Family Assistant

Our Nannies and Family Assistants often have a background in pedagogy or childcare. A Nanny or Family Assistant from TFA has at least a mbo level 4 diploma and hbo working and thinking level. She has extensive experience in organizing and running a family.

We also train and coach our Nannies in pedagogical skills, parenting, grooming, etiquette et cetera. The Nanny or Family Assistant plays games with the children, helps with homework, goes with them to places where other children are so they learn enough to play together with others. And fun: the children can always invite friends to play at home in their familiar environment.

4. A Nanny or Family Assistant always works full-time

Not necessarily! We also match Nannies or Family Assistants for, say, 32 hours per week. Our Nannies and Family Assistants work as salaried employees for one family. The intention is always a long-term cooperation. How you divide the hours you agree on together. You can also have a mommy or daddy day or ask the Nanny or FA to babysit in the evenings.
